🗺️ EXCURSION PROGRAM

Departure
Morning departure from Athens. Short stops along the way for rest and refreshment before reaching the majestic region of Meteora.

Meteora

Upon arrival, the view of the towering dark rock pillars instantly inspires awe. Since the 11th century, the Monasteries of Meteora have been built atop and within these rocks, creating a truly unique spiritual landscape.
Meteora has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, recognized both as a rare geological phenomenon and as one of the most important monuments of Orthodox Christianity.

Our visit begins with a panoramic drive around the colossal rock formations, offering unforgettable views and photo opportunities.

We then visit the Monastery of Agios Stefanos. Those who wish may enter and venerate the monastery. Access is easy, as a small stone bridge connects the road directly to the monastery entrance.

Next, we visit either the Monastery of the Transfiguration (Great Meteoron), the first and largest monastery of Meteora, founded in the mid-14th century by Saint Athanasios the Meteorite, or the Varlaam Monastery, depending on conditions and timing.

Kalambaka

After our exploration of the awe-inspiring monastic rocks, we continue to Kalambaka, built at the foot of Meteora.

Optional visit to the Meteora Natural History Museum & Mushroom Museum.
The museum hosts an impressive collection of birds and mammals, as well as Greece’s first comprehensive mushroom museum. Visitors can see approximately 350 animal species and 250 of the most important mushroom species.
The exhibits are presented through highly realistic dioramas that accurately recreate natural ecosystems. The mushroom section offers a unique three-phase presentation of mushroom development, providing a complete understanding of their growth within different environments. The overall museum experience is both educational and visually striking.

Following the museum visit, free time in Kalambaka for walking around town, lunch, and coffee at traditional taverns and cafés.
